Budget & Financial Resources

Each year, the Village adopts an “Operating Budget” that covers daily expenses and revenues like salaries, utilities, and regular operating costs, AND a “Capital Budget” that covers funding large, long-term investments like building construction, major equipment purchases, and infrastructure improvements.

Operating Budget

Departments start preparing for their budget requests in August. The requests are reviewed by the Village Manager who presents a recommended budget to the Village Board in late September. The Village Board approves the operating budget in November, following a series of budget work sessions that include resident input.

Capital Budget - Capital Improvement Plan

As part of the annual budget, departments begin planning capital projects for the next 5 years. Capital projects include bike trails, street resurfacing, development of parks, replacement of equipment, building maintenance, and others. These projects are presented to the Village Board as part of the Capital Improvement Plan.
